As the eddy current method is an indirect testing process, reference standards with artificially produced failure points are needed to reproduce the appropriate comparison signals. Rohmann normally recommends the use of prepared reference standards when testing materials for damage. Defects of every kind can be represented by reference standards. For example, cracks can be simulated with grooves, corrosion damage with milled out sections, etc.
All Rohmann reference standards are supplied with a calibration certificate.
