NDT Equipment Sales is pleased to announce its appointment as Australian distributor for Ofil Systems, Israel.

OFIL develops, designs, manufactures and markets a range of imaging using proprietary UV BandPass technology that enables detection of faint UV signals in full daylight for the civil, homeland security law enforcement, and power distribution.  Ofil also manufactures and develops custom-built inspection systems that incorporate Ofil’s unique SBUV filters and optic components, according to customers’ specifications and special needs.

Ofil’s flagship product is the DayCor® corona camera system.  It is a UV-visible bi-spectral system designed to detect weak UV phenomena such as corona and arcing and visualize them.

The DayCor® systems are indispensable tools at various sections of the electrical utility industry as they provide the electricity linesmen, elaborated standalone predictive and preventative non-intrusive maintenance tools.  DayCor® technology is indispensable also for the defense-orientated organizations that demand unique sensitive UV detection capabilities.

UVolléthe most compact corona camera

UVollé is the lightest daylight corona camera specially designed to be handy and ready for daily use by distribution and substations maintenance teams.  It is a bi-spectral UV-Visible imager set for inspection, detection and capture of nearby corona and arcing phenomena in full daylight.  UVollé’s dimensions, features and mode of operation make it an ideal basic tool for every predictive maintenance assignment and in every electrical maintenance toolbox.  The inspected scene is displayed on a color LCD while the findings are captured and stored on a removable memory card.

Decision Aiding Chart – Ofil’s Methodology

Ultra Violet inspection technology has unique patterns that lead to typical understanding of the inspected objects, different from those used for thermo-vision and other techniques.  Predictive maintenance is based upon such understandings.  Using accumulated experience and studying case studies and feedback from DayCor® users, Ofil came up with a flow-chart “Decision Chart” that leads users to ascertain or reveal and broaden their insights into their electrical system condition and to actions to be taken.  This chart is available from Ofil upon request.

Transmission

Transmisson involves inspection of remote objects in rural inaccessible areas. Corona cameras must have high sensitivity and high resolution to be able to pinpoint corona sources.  A narrow FOV with zoom capabilities will allow seeing the physical failures where corona is generated.  The ideal solution for transmission lines is DayCor® Rom, but whenever access to vehicles is possible, Ranger and Superb can be used as well.

Distribution

Distribution lines are located in urban areas and consist typically of a large variety of components.  Inspection is conducted from short distance, usually using a car.  To be able to view the nearby corona sources, the corona camera should have a wider FOV.  Long urban lines with accessibility to vehicles make the range an ideal solution.  UVollé is ready to draw and simple to operate even when unplanned inspection is required.

Substations

Substations are confined dangerous constructions that typically consist of large varieties of components. In these locations, it is necessary to see fully the surroundings.  Using LCD rather than a viewfinder is essential. Inspection angles and views should be flexible to be able to look at hidden places, using a compact imager held by a stretched arm, for example.  To be able to capture as many instances of corona on the nearby structures, a wider FOV is required.  There are two main substation categories: subs with medium voltage of 3 to 100kV and high voltage of above 100kV.

Electrical Trains

Electrical mass transportation reliability is a major concern, as both passengers’ safety and economic considerations are involved.  Contaminated insulators that re often found in highly polluted urban areas are vulnerable to corona activity.  Automatic, real time detection and analysis of potential hazardous sources is highly important.  Electrical trains are a combination of overhead lines and substations with the corresponding recommended solutions.

High voltage laboratories

Tests and experiments are conducted in high voltage laboratories.  Such activities require reliable results and consequently highly sensitive testing equipment, preferably with documentation capabilities.  Ruggedized and sturdy features are required whenever testing in extreme conditions is required.  Often manufacturers of electrical components such as generators, transformers, insulators, conductors test their products for corona.
